Discover La Palma’s new volcano, Tajogaite, and its impact. The earth opened up on September 19, 2021, creating the continent's youngest landmass. The aftermath presented two sides of the same coin.

The darker side: the destruction of homes, workplaces, and leisure spots for many local families, leaving them with nothing but memories of the years spent in those areas.

The brighter side: witnessing what Mother Nature—the true owner of this planet—can create in just a few months, resulting in a breathtaking landscape.

(*) Weather conditions may require changing the route to a linear path ending in the Las Manchas neighborhood. The duration remains the same; the only differences would be an elevation change of +100m/-600m and a distance of 6.5 km. You would be dropped back off at the La Palma Outdoor office.

From the meeting point, we will travel to Llanos del Jable, where the activity begins and ends; upon completion, we will return to the meeting point.

• Languages: The activity is not offered in a single language; the guide may provide explanations in multiple languages.

  • German: Wednesdays (10:00 AM), Fridays (10:00 AM), Saturdays (10:00 AM), and Sundays (10:00 AM). During the summer season, some of these slots may be conducted in Spanish/English (please check with the company to confirm).

• Pets: Allowed (during hot weather, the use of protective booties or creams is recommended to prevent paw burns). Please notify the company in advance; taxis generally do not allow pets, so the company van will need to be assigned to the group.

Tour description

The meeting point is at our office in El Paso, where restroom facilities are available for your use. Before setting off, we will watch a 6-minute video about the 2021 volcanic eruption, created by local photographer Saúl Santos.
Afterwards, we will travel by shared transport to the hike's starting point (a 20-minute drive).
On this route, we will take you right to the edge of the new Tajogaite volcano cone—the closest point currently accessible—via a fairly easy 7.8 km trail where you can witness the volcano's power.
The route involves an elevation change of 300 meters: a descent to the viewpoints followed by an ascent.
At the end of the hike, we will return to the meeting point at our office.

General recomendations

• Wear comfortable clothing and suitable footwear, and bring a jacket and rain protection just in case.
• Sun protection and a cap or hat.
• Sufficient water (1 to 1.5L per person) and a snack.
• Never stray from the marked trails.
