In 1949 the ashes of the San Juan volcano buried parts of the best agriculture land in the area. It generated an extend land in which an exceptional volcanic tube was formed. This tube is nearly 500 meters long, more or less 3 meters wide and between 1 and 6 meter high.
Its scientific interest consists mostly in the geological formations and its biological importance due to the adapted fauna found in the underground life.
