Tijarafe
Tijarafe
Tijarafe is the fifth-largest municipality on the island, covering almost 54 square kilometres, which represents approximately 7.6% of La Palma’s total surface area. It borders Puntagorda to the north, the island’s central mountain range (Sierra de la Cumbre) to the east, the Atlantic Ocean to the west, and the municipalities of Tazacorte, Los Llanos de Aridane, and El Paso to the south.
Its coastline, characterised by steep cliffs and difficult access, stretches for approximately 11.5 kilometres, accounting for around 9.3% of the island’s total perimeter.
Tijarafe is one of only two municipalities on La Palma that have preserved the names they were given during the aboriginal period when the island was divided into cantons: Aridane and Tijarafe.
