Puntagorda
Puntagorda
Nestled among almond groves and pine forests lies the westernmost municipality of La Palma. Puntagorda is bordered to the north by the impressive Izcagua Ravine, home to an exciting zip line, and to the south by the Garome Ravine, which marks the boundary with Tijarafe and offers another spectacular viewpoint.
Puntagorda is especially famous for its abundance of almond trees. If you visit, be sure to try its traditional almond sweets (almendrados). And if you happen to be there on a Sunday, do not miss the Puntagorda Farmers’ Market, the most famous market on the island. Here you will find a wide variety of local and organic products, sample freshly pressed sugarcane juice (guarapo), purchase local handicrafts, and even enjoy live music performances. In fact, it is rare to visit the market without finding some form of musical entertainment.
The combination of almonds and music reaches its peak during the Almond Blossom Festival (Fiestas del Almendro en Flor), where visitors can enjoy concerts, traditional food, and wine tastings in a lively and festive atmosphere.
Like Garafía and Tijarafe, Puntagorda historically faced significant challenges in accessing the sea, as its coastline is dominated by steep cliffs. To overcome this, local residents built porises—small coastal harbours with wooden houses suspended from the cliffs, providing access for fishing, navigation, and trade.
The Porís of Puntagorda is a truly magical place, with its wooden cabins perched dramatically above the ocean. It is a location that leaves no visitor indifferent.
