Description of the guided tour

If you are a hiking lover, you cannot miss this guided hiking route on La Palma. El Cubo de la Galga is one of the places you cannot skip. This place is ideal to enjoy the lushness of the picturesque laurel forest of La Palma.

After picking you up at our official stops, we will head northeast towards the municipality of Puntallana in search of the Laurisilva forest, which originated in the Tertiary period, more than 20 million years ago, and which conserves its characteristic greenness throughout the year due to the horizontal rain generated by the trade winds.

Its leafiness will surprise you and take you, at times, to an enchanted forest where the big ferns, the mist and the humidity, accompanied by the rest of the flora and fauna of the place, will be the real protagonists.

After submerging ourselves in El Cubo de La Galga with our Official Guide, we will ascend to the Mirador of Somada Alta, from where if the day is clear, it will allow us to contemplate our neighbouring islands of Tenerife and La Gomera, as well as the villages of Los Sauces and San Andrés.

From there we will descend to El Mirador de San Bartolo, located in the area of San Bartolomé, from where we will also be able to contemplate some beautiful views of the place and a great history. At the same Mirador (viewpoint) you will see a monument that reminds us of the Salto del Enamorado’s legend, which tells of how a brave shepherd was taken by a beautiful peasant woman, but nevertheless her love was not at all returned.

The beautiful young woman, overwhelmed by the shepherd’s insistence on getting her heart, wanted to prove her love by asking for an impossible one and thus free herself, once and for all, from her courtship. To do this, she asked him that before becoming his wife, he should approach the precipice and, leaning his hands on his lance (a rod with which Canarian shepherds avoid orographic difficulties), he should draw the abyss three times with his body without falling. The lover’s courage and skill were evident in the first two jumps, but in the third, when he was entrusted to his lady, who was already short of strength, he did not lean on the ground and plunge into the depths of the ravine. Love blinded him and he died to get it and his body was never found. She lost her senses and cried every day that was left of her life. Since then, the local people call the cliff El Salto del Enamorado (The Lover’s Leap) to remember him.

With this histori we put the cherry on top of an unforgettable day on the island!
