Description of the guided tour

El Roque de Los Muchachos, with its 2,426 meters of height, is the top of the Isla Bonita (“the Beautiful Island”) and it is crossed by several paths that will make you enjoy its panoramic views and a sea of clouds difficult to forget. It is also one of the best places in the northern hemisphere for astronomy, which is why some of the most important telescopes in the world are located here.

After picking you up at your official stop, we will ascend in our transfer to the top of the island by a winding road that will take us to the highest point of the island, the Mirador de Los Muchachos. This is where you will begin our guided route along the GR-131, a path that was once used as a commercial route connecting the municipality of Tijarafe to the capital in Santa Cruz de La Palma.

From the Roque de Los Muchachos viewpoint we will take the GR-131, also known as “El Bastón”, starting to border the Caldera de Taburiente National Park, on a path that at first presents a notable unevenness that then decreases as we pass near some of the telescopes of the Roque de Los Muchachos Observatory. This path offers panoramic views along its entire length, and you can see, for example, Cumbre Vieja or Cumbre Nueva, as well as the municipalities of Los Llanos de Aridane, Tazacorte and Tijarafe.

Cedar trees, codesos and mountaintop thoughts are some of the few survivors that have managed to overcome the extreme hostility of the environment here. A little further on, we find the so-called Robert’s Wall (la Pared de Roberto), which legend attributes to the hand of the devil. At the Mirador de Los Andenes, where the road is once again within reach, the sensation of floating in the void is almost unreal.

From here the path winds its way through the different obstacles that the orography of the place offers us to reach Pico de La Cruz from where, if the day is clear, you can see the other islands of the province, such as Tenerife, La Gomera and El Hierro.

From Pico de La Cruz, the path winds along the ridge and heads towards Pico de Piedra Llana, although it does not climb up to it, to pass into the municipality of Puntallana. The gorges along the route are increasingly lower, such as the Barranco Seco gorge (2,186 m).

Not far from here, we reach the final point of this route, Pico de La Nieve (2,232 m), after deviating a little from the path to reach its summit, we then descend to the crossroads of the main road, where our transfer will be waiting for you to return.

Without a doubt, a guided hiking route on La Palma that you will not forget!
